چکیده

Hypothesis / aims of study Overactive bladder (OAB) associated with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) is common in elderly men. However, its exact etiology remains unclear. Tamsulosin is an α1-adrenoceptor blocker used in the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia worldwide, and known to be effective for OAB as well as obstructive symptoms. In this study, we investigated the effects of tamsulosin on the urinary bladder function in conscious rats with partial BOO using a frequency/volume analysis and cystometry.

Effects of alpha 1-adrenergic receptor subtype selective antagonists on lower urinary tract function in rats with bladder outlet obstruction.

PURPOSE Antagonists of alpha 1-adrenergic receptors (alpha 1ARs) relieve obstructive and irritative symptoms in patients with bladder outlet obstruction. However, to our knowledge mechanisms underlying the relief of irritative symptoms remain unknown. Because bladder alpha 1dARs are up-regulated in some rats with bladder outlet obstruction, we investigated the effect of the alpha 1aAR antagonis...

Effects of tamsulosin on bladder blood flow and bladder function in rats with bladder outlet obstruction.

OBJECTIVES To investigate the mechanism underlying the ameliorating effect of tamsulosin, an alpha(1)-adrenoceptor antagonist, on storage symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, the effects of tamsulosin on bladder blood flow (BBF) and bladder function was evaluated in rats with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). METHODS BOO was produced by partial ligature of the proximal ureth...

Effects of Tamsulosin, an Α1-adrenergic Antagonist, and Tak- 802, a Novel Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor, and Their Synergistic Effects on the Urodynamic Characteristics in a Guinea Pig Model of Functional Bladder Outlet Obstruction

Hypothesis / aims of study The efficacy of α1-adrenergic antagonists in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is generally attributable to improvement of the urodynamic characteristics and relief of bladder instability. While the latter effect has been partly confirmed in an animal model with partial bladder outlet obstruction (...

Key Words: α1A adrenoceptor antagonist, Urethral perfusion pressure, Tamsulosin

Objectives: This study was performed to assess the effects of α1A adrenoceptor antagonists on urethral perfusion pressure (UPP) and their therapeutic potential for female bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). Methods: A cannula was inserted into the femoral arteries of female rats to administer tamsulosin (treatment I), doxazosin (treatment II) or phentolamin (treatment III) and to monitor systemic...

Effects of chronic administration of tamsulosin and tadalafil, alone or in combination, in rats with bladder outlet obstruction induced by chronic nitric oxide deficiency.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to define if tadalafil causes detrusor muscle impairment and to observe the effect of combination of tadalafil with tamsulosin on the lower urinary tract of rats with bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) induced by chronic nitric oxide deficiency. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-one male rats were randomized to following groups: 1 - control; 2 - L-Nitroarginine meth...
